Local Veterinarian Receives VVMA Veterinary Award

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA), a professional organization of veterinarians dedicated to improving the quality of human and animal life, announced that Maureen Ward, DVM, has received the Distinguished Virginia Award Veterinarian 2022 for his exemplary service. to the veterinary profession and the VVMA.

The award was presented at the Virginia Veterinary Conference in Roanoke, Va. on February 25, 2022.

Dr. Ward earned the award through exemplary community service, according to a press release. She is known for maintaining a strong relationship with the community through sponsorships of local organizations and events, as well as being an outstanding owner and leader of Harrisonburg Animal Hospital.

As a practice owner, Dr. Ward is focused on growing and encouraging physicians and staff. Dr. Ward serves on the Advisory Committee for the Veterinary Technology Curriculum at Blue Ridge Community College.

She volunteers at local elementary schools and colleges to speak out about the veterinary profession. Dr. Ward welcomes both local high school students and veterinary assistant and technician students for summer internships.

She also sponsored and helped create a veterinary medicine exhibit at the Explore More Discovery Museum to help young people explore their love of veterinary medicine. Dr. Ward actively invests in and has a significant impact on the future of veterinary medicine.

Dr. Ward is a wife and mother of three young children. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping and attending music festivals.

“She is not only a talented veterinarian, but also an exceptional leader and an exceptional member of our community. As a leader, she prioritizes not only patient care and customer relations, but also mental health and employee relations. Dr. Ward takes care not only of the furry family members, but also of their human counterparts,” said Dr. Brian Neumann.
