Intelsat enters untapped commercial air transport market in India

Intelsata leading integrated satellite and terrestrial network and inflight connectivity (IFC) provider, announced the launch of Intelsat’s inflight connectivity services in Indian skies through an agreement with nelcoIndia’s leading provider of satellite communications services.

This agreement is good news for Intelsat airline partners and travelers as they will enjoy end-to-end broadband coverage on domestic and international aircraft flying to or from an Indian airport, as well as on planes flying over the country.

Intelsat’s IFC service offers airline passengers a seamless connectivity experience at home and in the office. Additionally, it allows an airline to differentiate itself, improve passenger experience while building passenger loyalty and optimizing flight operations.

Nelco has offered Aero IFC services for over two years and plans to introduce these services to more airlines in conjunction with its global partners.

Nelco will provide these services using Intelsat’s IS-33e broadband satellite. The IS-33e was launched in 2016 and provides C-band and Ku-band connectivity to parts of Asia, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Intelsat’s IS-33e satellite is approved by Indian government regulators, paving the way for uninterrupted, blackout-free coverage.

The service is available now on Intelsat partner airlines.
