Hertz and bp will develop a network of charging stations for electric vehicles in the United States

Hertz and bp have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a network of electric vehicle charging stations in the United States powered by bp pulse, bp’s global electrification and charging solutions brand.

The MOU also involves bp pulse managing Hertz’s charging infrastructure and customizing its Omega software to ensure Hertz’s growing fleet of electric rental cars are charged quickly and efficiently between rentals.

Omega supports fleet operations by automating charging when the price of electricity is low, while providing real-time visibility into electric vehicles, chargers, energy consumption and more.

Hertz already has a footprint of locations across North America suitable for bp pulse to build and manage a network of fast charging hubs to serve Hertz customers, including taxi and rideshare drivers, as well as the general audience.

“This is a landmark moment. It shows the power of bp’s digital and operational capabilities coming together with a partner like Hertz. With its industry-leading electrification ambitions, we can change the future of passenger cars. electric rental,” said Vic Shao, founder of Amply Power and president of bp pulse’s fleet division in the United States.

Through large-scale purchases from Tesla, Polestar and GM, Hertz has built a fleet of tens of thousands of electric vehicles, which are available at 500 Hertz locations in 38 states.

The company’s goal is to have a quarter of its fleet electric by the end of 2024, with continued growth through acquisitions from various electric vehicle manufacturers.

Hertz has invested in thousands of charging stations across its sites, and this partnership with bp pulse will allow Hertz to significantly expand its national charging footprint.

Stephen Scherr, CEO of Hertz, said, “Hertz is accelerating the adoption of electrification by investing in the largest electric vehicle rental fleet in North America and expanding the availability of charging stations. We are excited to partner with bp pulse to create a nationwide charging infrastructure for the Hertz EV fleet, increasing the number of charging options available to our customers and providing them with a premium electric experience and travel options at low emissions.

bp pulse is expanding its global high-speed charging network for cars, light commercial vehicles and trucks, with a global target of over 100,000 chargers by 2030, with around 90% of these being fast or ultra-fast chargers .
