Constant Aviation – Bill Skillman scores No. 1 and first-round victory at Constant Aviation Factory stock showdown in Norwalk, Ohio

NORWALK, Ohio – Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown keeps Chevrolet COPO Camaros rivalries going, Ford Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks live at Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Summit Racing Equipment Motorsport Park.

Second in the Factory Stock Showdown points standings, Bill Skillman in his Ray Skillman Ford Cobra secured the No. 1 qualifying position thanks to a 7.811 second pass at 177.42 mph in the second qualifying session. On Saturday morning, Skillman was looking to do some testing to prepare for the first round of eliminations later in the day.

“We raced pretty well. That last pass, we just ran and plugged it into top gear and then threw it in neutral to go down the rest of the way,’ Skillman said. “We just wanted to see what those early numbers looked like. We weren’t the fastest, but we were right up there.

Face skill Lee Hartman and Carrier Services Group Dodge Drag Pack in the first round on Saturday evening. Skillman ran 7.882 seconds at 175.80 mph, topping Hartman’s 7.981 at 177.49.

“It’s kind of weird to be racing qualifying and the first lap on the same day,” Skillman said. “We do it regularly, though, so you get used to doing a qualifying run and then cutting back to eight cars.

Most recent event winner and points leader David Barton clinched his Saw Mill Auto Chevy COPO Camaro in second place in qualifying with a run of 7.825 seconds at 177.42 mph. Barton would line up against Alan Scrugg and his BILSTEIN/Wesley Motorsports Dodge Drag Pack start eliminations after chuck watson Dayco Ford The Cobra machine could not make the call. Barton would win with a pass of 7.877 seconds at 175.43 mph beating Scruggs’ 8.098 at 173.96.

With the first-round victory, Barton continues to carry the $1,000 bounty under the Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown bounty program. The bounty on Barton will increase until another driver beats him in the eliminations.

“It was warmer today, but I didn’t think it was faster or slower. The correction factor showed the same. It was nice to make some good solid straight passes today. We picked up a few,” Barton said. “It’s always exciting trying to get someone’s bounty. I’ll be honest, that was the last thing on my mind tonight. I wanted to win the first round so I could sleep better tonight. I wanted to move on to tomorrow with a win tonight.

Skillman, who had a $2,000 bounty on his head at Bristol, hopes he gets the chance to collect it himself.

“I have to do it (Barton) in the final,” Skillman said. “That’s what I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”

The battle between the Chevrolet COPO Camaro, Ford Cobra Jets and Dodge Challenger Drag Paks continue with the second round of eliminations at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
