Community groups help Ukraine and refugees

In Albany, local author AmyPatricia Meade is hosting an online book auction on Thursday, March 24 at noon at The Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza. Meade founded the Authors for Ukraine Charity Auction to use proceeds to help Ukrainian refugees. Joining the auction are 175 authors who have donated their books to sell at the auction. The funds will be donated to CARE’s Ukraine Crisis Fund. Care is an international organization that provides aid and relief to fight global poverty.

In Vermont, Castleton University is hosting an exhibition of Ukrainian art for a fundraising auction at the university’s Calvin Coolidge Library on Thursday, March 24. Eleven Ukrainian posters from the 1990s will be exhibited. After the exhibition, the posters will be auctioned off at Rennert’s Gallery in New York. At 4:30 p.m., former Castleton faculty member Bill Ramage will give a talk about his visit to Ukraine 30 years ago and the artists he encountered. The event is free and open to the public. Funds raised will be donated to the Ukrainian Medical Association of North America.

On Friday, two of Greene County’s largest social service organizations raised nearly $3,000 to support Ukrainian relief efforts through a Community Coin Collection at the Catskill Hose Company in Catskill. Staff and volunteers from Community Action of Greene County and Catholic Charities of Columbia and Greene Countys raised and proceeds will go directly to Catholic Relief Services through Catholic Charities and will be earmarked for Ukrainian relief efforts.

In Clifton Park, the Shenendehowa School District APE planned a fundraiser on Saturday morning to provide humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people. Drop offs were at the Orenda/Karigon Elementary bus port.

the Fresh market grocery stores have launched a four-week fundraising campaign to bring food aid to Ukrainian refugees until April 12. Proceeds will be donated to the World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that provides meals to people in humanitarian crisis, providing meals to refugees fleeing Ukraine. , and served over a million meals as part of his #ChefsForUkraine relief efforts.
