Building fire explosion in Carteret, NJ
CARTERET – An explosion inside a building blew up part of the roof during a fire on Friday afternoon.
Video taken around 2 p.m. captured smoke rising from the roof of Building 4 of the Bristol Station Complex next to the Peter J. Sica Industrial Highway.
The explosion intensified the smoke and flames could be seen as pieces erupted from the roof. The roof was completely blown off the facade of the building.
Mayor Dan Reiman said the building’s 48 units are a “complete loss” displacing 75 residents.
“So far there are only a few minor, non-life threatening injuries. However, fire suppression continues and inspectors will conduct a full investigation,” Reiman said.
Reiman asked residents to avoid the area as first responders are expected to be in the area for several hours.
The mayor’s charity fund is accept donations 100% of revenues benefiting residents.
